A. C. E. MOTORSPORT
OFF-ROAD
My current off-road racer is a custom built Land Rover with an 88 inch wheel base. When I brought this vehicle it was fitted with a 3.5 litre Rover V8 engine running on carburettors. This engine didn't give me the power I required, so I fitted a 3.9 litre Rover V8 fuel injected engine. Much better!
Here is the Land Rover, being put
through its paces on a test session in March 2003.

These two photos shows me in February 2004, driving it with more confidence and getting a bit
of air. This is before I fitted the bigger and more powerful engine.

Soon I hope to be racing with our very own custom designed and purpose built off-road race vehicle. This is based on a Range Rover. The chassis is longer, lighter, and with its space frame fitted, stronger then a standard Range Rover. The wheelbase is 107 inches and it will have a much bigger, and much more powerful 4.6 litre, fuel injected, V8 engine fitted. This A. C. E. Motorsport creation I have named "The Race Rover".

The Race Rover build history;
Once I had the chassis fabricated to the correct dimensions, the roll cage and full body space-frame skeleton, designed by Drew Bowler, was fitted to the chassis by Tomcat Motorsport. This was then painted yellow, see the picture above. It is now ready for the fitting of all the many and various parts.
The engine is a 4.6 litre fuel injected Rover V8 engine, originally bought from Matt Savage, it has been totally striped down, rebuilt and race prepared by John Exely, with a racing balanced crank, new hi performance cam shaft, racing pistons and increased compression. High pressure high capacity oil pump, preened and balanced con rods.
The axles are standard Range Rover axle cases, fitted with KAM differentials and strengthened half shafts, held in place using polyurethane suspension bushes.
The braking system will be up-rated using EBC grooved, dimpled and vented discs and Kevlar pads.
Custom made prop shafts will connect the axles to the gearbox.
The wheels will be by M J Lee Engineering, fireproof bonnet and wings from Tomcat Motorsport and the flat sheet body panels from SBA.
The seats are Corbeau, waterproof, bucket seats, with Luke, 5 point aircraft style harness's.
So far I have shed much blood, sweet and tears on this project.
