RACE CAR PREPARATION.

Have your classic or historic race car prepared by A. C. E. Motorsport.

A. C. E. Motorsport have worked on classic racing cars competing with the Historic Sports Car Club for a number of years. We helped with the preparation of a 1970 Formula 3 car which achieved second place in its class in 2002, and won in 2003.

We have attended every HSCC race meeting since mid 2001.
In 2004 we
prepared a 1000cc Formula 3 car, driven by Andrew Charles (Ace), and were involved in the preparation of an orange 1970 Palliser that was originally fitted with a Formula 3 1000cc engine, but is now races with a 1600cc Lotus twin cam engine. Pictured below.

A. C. E. Motorsport is based centrally in the UK, between Mallory Park, Donington Park, close to Rockingham and about an hours drive from Silverstone, so we are ideally located to get to race circuits in the UK.

We are able to offer you our expertise and track proven knowledge in preparing your classic or historic racing car to drive and win races with. We have 4 basic options to choose from, but we will happily discuss your individual requirements, so you may have our service tailored to meet your own needs.

Option 1)
We take delivery of your car over the winter, in time to prepare it for the first race. If we have the car early enough, we will have the engine rebuilt for you, set the suspension up, change the gear ratios to suit any particular circuit and take it to any race track in the UK in our covered, secure, race car transporter (Ireland, Knockhill and IoM extra), we will even provide the fuel for each race. In fact all you have to do is meet us at the track get in the car, race it, and then leave it to us to take it home and get it ready for you in time for the next race.

Option 2)
We have your car a few weeks before the first race to go over everything, (including engine tuning and/or suspension set-up work) making sure it is in tip top racing condition, change the gear ratios to suit any particular circuit and take it to any race track in the UK in our covered, secure, race car transporter (Ireland, Knockhill and IoM extra), with one of our race technicians to help with the running of your car at the meeting. We will store your car until the next race, giving it a going over and spanner check before each race.

Option 3)
You bring your car to us only when it needs specific work or tasks doing to it.

As mentioned earlier, these options are just to give you an idea of what we offer. We will be happy to discuss your individual requirements with you in detail.

"To finish first, first you have to finish", is a phrase heard often at the racetrack. At A. C. E. Motorsport we know the importance of this phrase, and we all work towards having the fastest racecar that will finish every race it enters. Being a driver who knows about race craft is very important, but equal, if not more time should be put into having a reliable car. Having a mechanical failure or a part come loose when leading is a dramatic reminder of inadequate car preparation.

What can you do to increase your odds of completing all the racing laps? Below are some tips that we use to allow for better race car preparation and have got us visible results over the course of previous seasons successful racing.

Organisation

Anyone who is associated with A. C. E. Motorsport organisation, all achieve top results in their own field. Indeed we will not tolerate anyone who is less then excellent at what they do.

Everyone involved has defined roles, this allows them to specialize on any given task, and each has his own area of expertise. Everyone has been received training on their area of responsibility. Defined roles allow for quicker and better quality work at the track and in the workshop. We have organised ourselves, over time, into these detailed roles, and having a named person at the top of each group of responsibilities ensures that all the necessary tasks are done in plenty of time for a race. While we all have defined roles, we are also all cross trained, to insure a full knowledge base, this helps each of us know what everyone else in the team has to do and how we can make everyone's job easier. This also helps in the event of a crewmember being absent from a race meeting, even though we specialize everyone can do every job. Our crew is the foundation of our race team, and working together we can get you a well-prepared car that will greatly enhance your performance.

Checklists

To insure that routine maintenance items are not missed, checklists that include a space for the crewmembers initials, are used. We have found is helpful to break the car down into different areas to be most efficient. Breaking down the car in this way allows our crewmembers to work without tripping over each other. One crewmember on the engine, one on the gearbox, one in the driver’s area pedals and dash, one underneath, one on suspension pieces and one on the tyres, etc. Initials on the checklist ensure that all tasks are completed.

Tool Maintenance and Equipment

In order to focus on the car properly the entire operation needs to be carried out with the correct tools and equipment. A. C. E. Motorsport use a full complement of suitable tools, no cheap spanners that flex or chew up nuts. Getting fresh fuel of the correct grade and quantity for the meeting can also be included in our service. Neglecting these areas can cause you trouble at the track, adding to your stress levels and potentially cut into practice time. Putting A. C. E. Motorsport in charge of support items can really make a difference in on-track performance.

A High Workshop Standard

How many times have you seen a competitor’s car have a component come loose, or have oil start dripping from it at the first practice session of the year? An easy way to cut down on this problem is to check everything before it leaves the shop. If any part is forgotten it could fall off, causing a dangerous situation or lost practice time. Leaving a line of oil down the track the first time out due to a loose line tends to upset your competitors, and get you into trouble too.

Cleanliness

Keeping the racecar clean is a very important element. Our cars are polished before every outing. Our clean and professional race team will also give you a better chance of attracting sponsorship. When cleaning the car it is a good opportunity for us to inspect every inch of the chassis for damaged, loose or worn parts. We have a keen eye and awareness of what to look for on classic or historic race cars.

Keeping the car light

The longer you own a car the heavier it seems to get. New trinkets get added and the old ones can just stay on. We will remove all unneeded items. Every gram counts, rarely can you remove weight in ten-pound chunks, but those small things add up. Removing things as we go, and always being on the look out for the lightest way to get a job done, help to keep the weight to a minimum.

Measure to the smallest increment

If the rest of the grid is happy with a measurement to the nearest 1/16th of an inch then we will aim to the nearest 1/32nd. We use the smallest reasonable measurement denomination possible. The extra time spent will produce a positive result. We look at every item on the car utilizing the smallest measurement philosophy, so your car will be better prepared. The extra time we spend is worth it, and it can be the difference of a place or two in a close qualifying environment. Maybe the extra work will only produce 1/100th of a second difference. Either way you will have a better quality car that will finish more laps. Our crew will raise the bar for you, and set the example.

If you choose to have your car prepared by A. C. E. Motorsport, we will do our best to ensure that your odds of finishing races further up the field will be increased.
